Hundreds of residents of Judumri community in Jere local government area (LGA) of Borno State, have fled to Maiduguri, the state capital after Boko Haram militants attacked the community Saturday evening.

Witnesses said sounds of gunshot rent the air on yesterday evening while the Muslim faithful were praying.

Judumri, the affected community, is behind the Jiddari Polo area in Maiduguri.

The Boko Haram attempts to infiltrate Maiduguri was reportedly thwarted by troops of the Nigerian army and members of the civilian joint task force (CJTF).

The military forces, according to witnesses, engaged in a gun duel with the militants up to late hours on Saturday.

Residents of Jiddari, also in Jere LGA, were said to have also fled their community over the Boko Haram attack.
