BREAKING: AVM Hamza Abdullahi, ex-Kano governor, is dead

Former military governor of Kano state, retired Air Vice Marshal Hamza Abdullahi is dead.

He died at the age of 74.

Hadejia Emirate confirmed the death in its official twitter handle.

He died on Wednesday morning in Frankfurt, Germany, where he went for treatment of an undisclosed ailment.

The retired general was born on March 2, 1945 in Hadejia, Jigawa state.

He attended the Nigeria Air Force Tactical Training Wing, Kaduna in 1964.

He also completed the Aircraft Technical Officer’s Course in West Germany (1964–1966), and studied at the Royal Military Training Centre in Chichester, England in 1974.

He was appointed military governor of Kano state from January 1984 to August 1985, during the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari.

After General Ibrahim Babangida took power, he was appointed Minister of Works and Housing, and later Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

As FCT minister from 1986 to 1989, Abdullahi oversaw the construction of Phase 1 of Abuja.
