The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has allegedly exposed a plan by the security agencies in Nigeria to kill leader of the movement, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky while in his detention facility.
This latest threat to kill the IMN leader emanated from a letter which was exposed after it was sent to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
According to a statement, signed by S. I. Shuaib on behalf of the Academic Forum of the IMN, “On January 25, 2019 the office of National Security Adviser, wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police telling him some concocted lies that the Islamic movement is planning to attack some selected detention facilities in the country during the 2019 general election.
“They want to create a fake Shia Muslims within the security set-up and use same to attack some detention centers including where they are keeping the prime target, Sheikh Zakzaky (H). That will give them the chance to frame a story that Shiites attempted to forcefully free Sheikh Zakzaky and others, so there was an exchange of fire, and as a result they shot their leader,” the statement further alleged.
IMN maintains that all Nigerians and the rest of the world know that the Islamic movement is not armed, adding that, “this plan will fail.”
The letter, a copy of which was made available to the GovernanceNews was titled: ‘Plans by Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) to raid selected detention facilities in the country during the 2019 general election.’
It read in part: “Intelligence at the disposal of this office reveals that there are plans by the members of IMN (Shiites), to lunch coordinated attacks on some detention facilities/prisons across the country during the forthcoming general elections. The planned attacks are to forcefully effect the release of their national leader, Ibrahim EL-ZAKZAKY (Sheikh), his wife and several members of the sect currently in custody. It also reveals that the leadership of the sect has commenced mobilization of supporters across the country through social media platforms, to ensure the success of the offensive.
“In view of the above, the National Security Adviser directs that you be availed of this development, to enable you put in place necessary measures to neutralize the imminent threats,” the letter signed by one Sunusi M Galadima for the National Security adviser, added.
However, the IMN by the letter insisted that the move by the IMN only further exposed their plans to ensure that they have complete their agenda of killing Sheikh Zakzaky, adding that, “On several occasions, some concerned Nigerians have been notifying the families of Sheikh Zakzaky that some paid agents within the security set-up that have link with some Imperialist and Saudi Arabia are desperate to conclude their contract of killing Shaikh Zakzaky.”
The IMN further frown at how on Several occasions, pictures of the meetings of Mansur Dan Ali with Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bn Salma were in circulation on most of the media outlets within and outside Nigeria which only confirms to our suspicion.
The IMN said, “It is not a hidden fact that the Saudi Crown Prince told the world in one of his US interviews that Zaria Massacre is one among his numerous achievements in Africa.
“We are certain that all peaceful and responsible Nigerians know that we a are not terrorists. We have never attacked anybody, we have never attacked any buildings but on the contrary, we are the victims of state sponsored terrorism,” it added.
It could be recalled that, the Federal High Court under Justice Gabriel Kolawale has set Sheikh Zakzaky free since 2016 but the government of Muhammadu Buhari has refused to set him (Zakzaky) free. This act was widely condemned by human right activists as gross violation of court order.
“On a final note, we are calling on the APC government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to respect the laws that constituted them as authorities and free Sheikh Zakzaky and other Nigerians detained illegally,” the statement concludes.
