Majority leader in the eight house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has been elected as the speaker of the ninth national Assembly.
Gbajabiamila scored a total of 281 votes to defeat his closest rival Mohammed Bago from Niger state who scored 76 votes.
Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos state was one of the preferred candidates as presiding officer of the assembly alongside Ahmed Lawan in the senate.
Before his election, he became favourite following his intensive campaign in the run to the elections.
358 members voted voted during the elections on the floor of the green chambers today.
One invalid vote was also recorded during counting of votes.
